Louise Rowe is a paper artist who specialises in paper-engineering and scherenschnitte (paper-cutting!) Based in England, she has a background in mixed media and illustration, and went on to study Graphic Design at university achieving First Class Honours.

Designing and illustrating pop-up books, the theme of her work has a theatrical element using landscapes with a sympathetic colour palette to set the scene for the story. With a keen eye for intricate detail and a steady hand, all paper-engineering is produced by hand using a scalpel. Illustration and art work is created using traditional methods along with digital collage.

Published in English and available world wide, the books have also been translated into several different languages including, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Catalan and Italian.


The Art of Pop-Up by Jean-Charles Trebbi has just been released. It features many paper-engineers from around the world. It includes images from Red Riding Hood: A Pop-up Book and an interview.

Sleeping Beauty: A Pop-up Book will be released in America and Canada in November 2012.
